Gastric Sleeve
This procedure reduces the size of your stomach, helping you feel full sooner and eat less. It’s the most popular weight loss procedure due to its high success rates and low complication rates. The average 1-year post-op weight loss is 65%.
Gastric Bypass
This is a more complex surgery that reroutes your digestive system, so fewer calories can be absorbed. It can improve a range of health conditions and leads to significant weight loss. The average 1-year post-op weight loss is 72%.
mini Gastric Bypass
Mini gastric bypass surgery is similar to a normal gastric bypass, but only reroutes one part of the intestine rather than two. It’s a slightly faster surgery and weight loss expectations are a little higher at 73% 1-year post-op.
duodenal switch
A more involved surgery where the stomach is reduced in size and ‘switched’ to the last 40% of the intestines. This has the biggest effect (up to 80% 1-year post-op weight loss) but comes with higher risks and a lifelong vitamin regime.
gastric banding or lap band removal
In gastric banding, an adjustable band is placed around the stomach to control portion sizes and slow digestion. Lap band removal is when this band is taken out due to complications or if patients are considering another weight loss surgery instead.
revision surgery – gastric sleeve to gastric bypass
For those who have had a gastric sleeve but need additional weight loss or have complications, this procedure converts the sleeve into a gastric bypass.

Costs
Prices start from NZ$9,500 for a gastric sleeve and NZ$10,500 for a gastric bypass, depending on the destination. That’s including the surgery, accommodation, visas, transfers and our support – and yes, even with the addition of flights on top, it’s still less than what you’d pay in New Zealand!
